Virgin Media

Virgin Media has recently advertised in the Sun – as you can see from our daily advertiser tweets.

In August 2016, when Stop Funding Hate was launched, over 40,000 people signed a petition asking Virgin Media to stop advertising in the Sun. And this video was seen by over seven million people on Facebook. Sadly, the company has continued to advertise regularly.

In 2015, the United Nations released a statement condemning the Sun, after an article was published likening refugees to ‘cockroaches’. UN Human Rights Chief, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, said:

“Under the guise of freedom of expression, [UK newspapers] are being allowed to feed a vicious cycle of vilification, intolerance and politicization of migrants, as well as of marginalized European minorities such as the Roma.”

Virgin Media’s own Supplier Code of Conduct states that:

Suppliers… must not knowingly be associated with any group that supports acts of violence, terrorism or discrimination.”

And Virgin Group, the company that owns the Virgin brand, boldly claims that:

“VIRGIN IS KNOWN FOR CHALLENGING THE STATUS QUO – TAKING ON INDUSTRY GIANTS AND CHAMPIONING PEOPLE”

If you’re a Virgin Media customer, please let them know it’s time they put these commitments into action.
