The latest GB News accounts have just revealed that the toxic TV channel lost a further £22 million during the last financial year as major advertisers continued to stay away. This brings its total losses to more than £130 million since 2021.
Over the past year, thousands of #StopFundingHate supporters have taken action to urge brands to steer clear of GB News. Thanks to those efforts very few high profile brands are still showing up on the channel.
A rare exception was Marks and Spencer – but after a huge mobilisation by the #StopFundingHate community, the company’s GB News radio ads quietly disappeared in March last year, and we’ve not spotted them since.
The success of last year’s Crowdfunder has enabled #StopFundingHate to expand media monitoring of toxic GB News content, and widen the campaign to cover GB News advertisers on YouTube, which had become an increasingly important revenue source for them.
But with Ofcom repeatedly refusing to act, we need to keep up the pressure.
And with toxic media narratives fuelling and emboldening the far right, and the Trump administration leaning heavily on global advertising agencies to keep funding toxic media, it’s vital that advertisers keep hearing from their customers about why it’s important to #StopFundingHate.
One of the most powerful ways you can support #StopFundingHate is by setting up a regular donation. Even a small amount, given monthly, can make a huge difference in building our movement, protecting our independence and keeping the campaign strong.
In the meantime, a huge thankyou for supporting #StopFundingHate – and please do join our mailing list to stay updated about the campaign.
